STEM Rec Challenges December 4 - 8 Science Smell Focus Challenge. Humans are thought to be able to distinguish a trillion unique smells. We'll learn about how our nose recognises smells, compare our sense of smell to some animal super-smellers, and then see how how many of our mystery smells the students can identify. Engineering / Math / Art Foxville Christmas Village . Students will design and construct their own building to be included in our FDA Christmas Village. Students will then paint and decorate their building at the art station. The village will be on display through the month of December. We are hopeful this will be an exciting and unify project for our student body.  We need parents to help in the design/construction process and the painting/decorating process. STEM Rec Challenges November 19-20, 2018 “Gratitude helps us grow and expand; gratitude brings joy and laughter  into our life and into the lives of all those around us.” This Thanksgiving week, we are so grateful for all the students who constantly bring joy into our life. They remind us to be happy for no reason and ask questions even the wise cannot dream up. We adore each and every one of them. In STEM this week we will be reviewing all the games we have learned, having a lego contest, and going outside as much as the weather permits. Have a wonderful fall break!  Note: Art will be doing a challenge with soda cans the week after Thanksgiving. If you have soda cans we could upcycle please donate them. Thank you!

STEM Rec Challenges October 23 - 27 Science / Math This week we are starting our month on magnets. Why can some metals form magnets while others can not? Students will learn about the metals that are magnetic and try magnetizing a piece of metal to form their own magnet. Standard: Students will understand that magnetism can be observed when there is an interaction between the magnetic fields of magnets or between a magnet and materials made of iron. Math Students will be using a budget to spend money. Each child will be given flashcards with money on them.. The challenge is to use the amount of money they have to spend on items they want and keep within their budget. Literacy Fitness Relay! This week we are going to play a game outside using straws! We are going to make as many letters or words as we can with our teams.
