Due to the short week, STEM Rec will not be offering challenges. We will be having a few days of crafts and games instead. Students will also be able to purchase some Christmas items with their fox dots at our "Pre-Christmas" sale.  

The STEM Rec team wishes everyone the happiness of good friends, the joy of a happy family, and the wonder of the happy season.  Have a memorable Thanksgiving!

STEM Rec Challenges September 25 - 29 Science Students will learn about the force of buoyancy. We’ll experiment with techniques to maximize buoyancy by making clay boats. Standard: Students will understand the relationship between the force applied to an object and resulting motion of the object. Math Students will practice their basic math skills with a math game. Each students will receive a certain number of cards and from their cards will pick one number as the “goal number”. New Year, New Writing Skills!

Happy 2018 Franklin Foxes! I hope your break was restful, fun, and restorative, and welcome back to Literacy! With a new year comes a new engage block and, for literacy students, lots of new writing skills. All literacy classes this block will be learning and refining the fine art of informational writing. While the the term "informational text" may sound boring, writing with the intent to teach or inform is empowering for many people. During these classes, students will not only be learning the writing skills of the genre, they will have the opportunity to be "experts" in the topics most important to them; I fully expect to be well versed in all things Minecraft by the time this block is done! STEM Rec Challenges March 5-9, 2018 Science The World Around Us. For our final microscope week students will be making their own slides by scavenging for specimens from our STEMrec area and garden. What do everyday objects look like when magnified 400 times? Literacy Pictionary. Get your drawing skills ready! In literacy our focus will be on people, places and things. Or in other words, we're talking about nouns and we will be playing a fun version of Pictionary to practice our knowledge of this important concept.
