Finding Franklin Week

Finding Franklin Week!

It’s our first week of school! We’re so excited to explore Benjamin Franklin’s life! Check out the exciting challenges our Station Masters have created for Aug. 13th through Aug. 17th.

Engineering/ Technology Challenge:
This week I am going to be making kites with materials provided as my challenge. This goes with the theme of Benjamin Franklin because his most famous experiment was flying kites during storms that eventually led to the invention of the lightning rod.

Art Challenge:
This week in art we will be doing stamping. We will talk about the printing press,  Benjamin Franklin, and the history behind this form of Art.

Math Challenge:
Ours is finding Benjamin. See how many ways you can make a “benjamin”=$100! Use paper money to create $100 as many ways as you can.

Literacy Challenge:
In 1722, after many attempts of trying to get his own work into his brother's newspaper, Benjamin Franklin (under his secret pen name Mrs. Silence Dogood) finally got his work published. In Literacy, we're going to be talking about this, why he did it, how he did it and we have some fun activities planned that include having students create their own secret pen name and getting put in their own Franklin Fox Newspaper.

Science Challenge:
For Finding Franklin Week students will be exploring Benjamin Franklin's scientific discoveries of electricity through interactive activities. Students will learn what major contributions Benjamin Franklin made in the scientific community and replicate some of his basic electric experiments.

Social Studies Challenge:
Benjamin Franklin and Citizenship: Ben Franklin didn’t invent anything, but he improved many things!  We’ll learn about some of his improvements and how through them he was a benefit to his community. We’ll use the play structure, so don’t forget your socks!

Don’t forget that we also have Self-Directed challenges for the children to choose from.
