Engineering and Technology
Spaghetti Bridges. Civil engineers design structures such as buildings, dams, highways and bridges. Student will explore the field of engineering by making bridges using spaghetti as their primary building material. Then they test their bridges to see how much weight they can carry before breaking.

Social Studies
Black Plague.  In social studies, students will be learning about the Black Plague and its effects on Medieval Europe. Students will discover how the impact of the Plague created a platform for which the Renaissance could come into fruition. We will be playing a game to simulate how easy it was for the disease to be transmitted throughout a settlement.

Math
Jurassic Math.  Students will be playing a game where they journey through the time of the dinosaurs. To move on the board, students answer 2 math questions on the cootie catcher dice to see whether they can make it to the finish before their teammates.

Science
Fingerprint patterns.  The ridges on our fingers (and feet) form unique patterns called fingerprints. They are good for identification because they stay the same through our whole lives. We'll be learning about the different patterns in fingerprints that are used to identify people and take our own fingerprints to see which patterns we have.


Art
Abstract Forest.  Students will be exploring abstract art by looking at many great artists including: Wassily Kandinsky, Gerald Chodak, Henri Matisse. Students will then creating an abstract forest filled with imagination.


Literacy
Noun Fishing.  This week Literacy is going fishing--fishing for nouns that is! Come learn what nouns are and see if you have what it takes to get the catch of the day at our Franklin Discovery Pond.


Music Monday
Lava You.  The music challenge this month, which our students can choose each Monday is “Ukulele Lava Song”  Students will learn three easy notes on the ukulele which are the the notes used for the Pixar song “Lava”.  They will learn to play and sing the song together learning rhythm, singing, and a musical instrument!




Wellness Thursday
Steal the Bacon. This is  a tag-based game. The mission is to steal the bacon, but watch out or else your enemy might steal yours instead! The goal is to be the first person to grab the “bacon” from the other side and run back to your line untagged.
