Art
Perspective Drawing. Perspective is a drawing technique that shows objects in 3-D on a flat piece of paper or canvas. The trick: using lines that recede to express a sense of distance. Perspective conveys depth and space. Drawing in one-point perspective seems complicated if you’ve never done it before. But if you know the rules, it's a snap. Students will be practicing these rules.

Social Studies
The Berlin Wall. Social Studies will present an introduction to the Cold War and the Berlin Wall. Students will learn about pilot Gail Halvorsen, born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and how he brought a sweet note to Operation Vittles, the United States military operation to bring food to the citizens of West Berlin. Of his own volition, he launched the adorably named Operation Little Vittles to bring candy and hope to the children of the blockaded city.

Engineering
Dinosaur Launchers. For this activity, students will be given: one cup, one dinosaur, one spoon, five popsicle sticks, two rubber bands, and two feet of tape. Students not have to use all of the materials, but they do need to use at least 2. The challenge is to design and build a launcher. They will field-test their inventions outside to see how far they can launch their army man.

Literacy
Master Predictors! This week students are going to practice being master predictors by reading “edge-of your seat” books!

Science
What are waves? This week at the science table we'll begin our unit on waves, more specifically light and sound waves. We'll talk about what waves are and the different ways they travel.

Math
Prodigy. Prodigy is a free, adaptive math game for grades 1-7 that integrates Common Core into a role-playing game using a Pokemon-style wizardry theme.

Music Monday
Peter and the Wolf is a symphonic fairy tale for children written by Sergei Prokofiev. The narrator tells the story while the orchestra illustrates it. Students will be introduced to this symphony.

Wellness Thursday
Soccer. Hopefully the weather will be warm enough to take the students outside. This month, we will help kids stay fit and healthy by playing soccer.  Soccer is great exercise that increases coordination, enhances flexibility, improves cardiovascular health and strength.
