Fine Arts
Shadow Puppets. Over at the art station this week we will be doing art, music, drama, social studies, literacy, and even a bit of engineering. We will have a week long unit on shadow puppets. We will learn about the Chinese tradition of shadow puppets and we will make our own. We will analyze the music that accompanies the puppetry and experiment with making similar music from household items and student created instruments. In pairs, we make up short scenes and lyrics to go along with our puppetry. Then we will be sharing our scenes behind a sheet with lights to get the full shadow puppet effect. Students who come to this station must be committed and able to come for the entire week in order to get challenge credit. If you are in field trips, plan on choosing a different challenge.

Literacy
Choose Your Own Adventure. This week, literacy is in the hands of the students. We will be talking about opinions and reasons. Our lesson will be "What are they and how do we form them?" Then students will be given a role-play type situation. They will all start out in the same situation, but will use their opinions and clear reasoning to find their way out. Be careful though, the story changes depending on what opinions and choices are chosen. So not everyone will have a happy ending. Good luck Foxes!

Social Studies

Science
Parts of a Wave. Frequency and wavelength are important characteristics of waves. We'll discuss how frequency and wavelength are connected and how changing them affects sound and light.

Wellness Thursday
Soccer. Hopefully the weather will be warm enough to take the students outside. This month, we will help kids stay fit and healthy by playing soccer.  Soccer is great exercise that increases coordination, enhances flexibility, improves cardiovascular health and strength.
